Jacksonville Jaguars 2021 First Round Mock Draft

When it comes to the most successful football franchises, the Jacksonville Jaguars usually aren’t near the top of one’s list. In fact, they’re likely towards the bottom of the list. With a 1-15 season last year, Duval County’s team reaffirmed itself as one of the most disappointing franchises in the NFL. However, things can change, and we have reason to believe they will for the better.

Sitting at last place in last year’s NFL season, the Jaguars earned the No. 1 pick in the 2021 draft. While one pick might not possess the capability to win a team the Super Bowl, it can sure turn a franchise around for the better.

We believe that could be the case with the moves Jacksonville has been making over the offseason. Sure, they might not qualify as a playoff ready team just yet, but they’re getting there in an impressive amount of time. Not to mention, the Jaguars have the 25th pick as well, meaning they’ll get to expand on their No. 1 overall selection. Without further of due, here’s our full Jacksonville Jaguars first round mock draft.

First Overall Pick: QB Trevor Lawrence, Clemson

Duh.

Unless you’ve been living under a rock, this pick should qualify as a no brainer. Trevor Lawrence is arguably the best prospect to ever come out of college since Andrew Luck, and quite frankly there’s no other acceptable choice for the Jaguars at the No. 1 pick. We’re not dissing on any of the other QB prospects by any means, it’s just that Trevor Lawrence is built differently.

The former Clemson quarterback has wowed the football world time and time again, making clutch plays like no other. He can throw the football efficiently, but leave him unpressured and he’ll take off with it. We’ll admit, there are some seriously high expectations on this kid, but don’t act surprised if he has the starting job in Week One.

25th Overall Pick: OT Samuel Cosmi, Texas

Annnnnnnd… this is where the fun begins. There’s no doubt over who Urban Meyer and company will take with the 1st overall pick, but the 25th overall pick decision will be sure to turn some heads. Why, you ask?

Well for starters, the Jaguars still possess plenty of crucial position needs. Whether it be on the offense or defense, Jacksonville does not yet contain every player needed to stand out as a complete team. That’s why this pick is so huge. Many people think the Jaguars should draft Trevon Moehrig out of TCU, someone who arguably qualifies as the best safety in the draft.

Others, including ourselves, say not so fast. While defense does win championships, having a good offense will get you points on the board. Unfortunately, no matter how hard a team may try, an offense can not flourish without a solid offensive line. Factor in the likelihood that Jacksonville will have a young QB at the reigns of the offense, and that statement becomes even more true.

For that reason, we’re gonna go with Texas offensive tackle Samuel Cosmi. The former Longhorns o-lineman qualifies as the perfect guy to fill in the offensive tackle role, as he’s a very versatile player. At a height of 6’6 and weighing 314 pounds, Cosmi has shown plenty of athleticism on the field time and time again.

Of course, this draft is stacked with great offensive lineman, so there’s plenty of other great options available. However, Cosmi stands out as the best available pick for the Jags at this point.

Concluding Thoughts

While the first pick might be painfully obvious, the 25th pick is sure to garner some attention on the national level. No matter who they draft, expect the Jaguars to improve a solid amount next year. Urban Meyer and company know what they are doing, and we can assure Jaguar fans that they will likely take this team to the next level. It may take some time, but things are certainly looking up in Duval County.
