Takeaways from the Jaguars loss to the Browns

The Jacksonville Jaguars had a chance to come away with a win late in Sunday’s matchup against the Browns. But, I’m sure the Jaguars executives will thank them later when they achieve a high pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. Here are three takeaways from a wild Sunday in Jacksonville:

Multiple Losses in One Day?

The Jags lost 27-25 to the Browns, and that should have been enough losing for the day. But, Jaguars owner Shad Khan was not done. He fired his GM Dave Caldwell after the team lost its 10th straight game. Caldwell was hired in 2013, and even ushered the team to the AFC Championship game in 2018. Then, it was downhill from there. To be honest, this was a move that in hindsight, was bound to happen. There is no work on who will take over the Jaguars general manager position in the near future. Khan released a statement today about the firing:

“I’ve met with Dave Caldwell to express my appreciation for his service to the Jacksonville Jaguars as our general manager. Dave was exceptionally committed and determined to bring a winner to Jacksonville, but unfortunately his efforts were not rewarded with the results our fans deserve and our organization expects.  Our football operation needs new leadership, and we will have it with a new general manager in 2021.”

James Robinson Shines Again

James Robinson has been incredible this season for the Jacksonville Jaguars. But, it has not translated into much wins at all. His performance was not good enough this time around either. But, he had one heck of a game. Robinson had 22 carries for 128 yards and a touchdown. In the passing game, he caught 5 passes for 31 yards. It was all in a losing effort to the now 8-3 Cleveland Browns. The Browns are a good team, so there are positives for the Jaguars to take away from this one. Other than Robinson, Mike Glennon had a splendid day. He was 20-35 for 235 yards and was also good for 2 touchdowns as well. He threw no interceptions.

There Is Always a Silver Lining

While this was a heartbreaking loss, the Jags do maintain their spot in the NFL Draft. They still would hold the number two pick if the season ended today. In a draft that is top-heavy, this is good news for Jags fans. After the top 10, the talent starts to teeter towards average potential. So, not a star-studded draft class by any means. But, the Jags do need a new star, and that could come with the number two pick. As they say, there is always a silver lining. The proof is in the pudding.
