The Miami Dolphins will face the New York Jets this Sunday, coming off an unexpected loss in Denver.
The Dolphins come into this game at 6-4, and they’ll look for their 7th win of the year at MetLife Stadium. Brian Flores and the rest of the crew will try to rebound after their 20-13 loss against the Broncos in which they allowed 6 sacks.
The last time these two played, the Dolphins shutout the Jets 24-0. The Jets are still winless, but have played much better as of late, nearly beating the Patriots in Week 9, and sticking close with the Chargers last week. Some Jets fans want to go 0-16, and draft Trevor Lawrence with the #1 pick. They would join the 2008 Lions and the 2017 Browns as the only teams to be 0-16 in a season. “Why would you want to be in that group?” Jets O-Lineman Greg Van Roten said. It’s obvious the players want to win, and there’s an added hunger when you are that desperate for a win as a player. The fans don’t really want to win, but the players do.
Tua Tagovailoa and other Dolphins Injuries
The last time the Dolphins played the Jets, Ryan Fitzpatrick was the starter. Tua came in the next week and has never looked back since. But this week against the Jets, Fitzpatrick may get his chance to start once again, due to Tua’s injury. Tua comes in questionable due to a thumb injury he suffered in Wednesday’s practice.
Coach Brian Flores said he will have to watch Tagovailoa’s practice film to judge his effectiveness with that thumb before making a final decision on if he will play Sunday.
“Anytime there’s anything, you have to make a declaration”, Flores said. “We have to watch the film and see what he looks like. We just figured ‘questionable’ was the best declaration for him.”
Other Injuries- RB Salvon Ahmed is OUT (Shoulder), RG Solomon Kindley is OUT (Foot), WR Jakeem Grant is QUESTIONABLE (Hamstring).
Conclusion
The Dolphins will look to get back on track against an easy Jets team. Last week’s loss was inexcusable although a loss was bound to happen with a young team on a 5 game winning streak. Hopefully the offensive line bounces back as well, and provides the well-needed protection for either Tua or Fitzpatrick.
“You’ve got to just flush it and come to prepare each and every week”, said Safety Coach Bobby McCain. “It’s a one-week season. We all believe in that and we understand that.”
A win for the Dolphins and a loss for the Bills would put them both at 7-4, tied for the lead in the AFC East. The Bills take on the 3-7 Chargers at home on Sunday.
Kickoff is at 1 PM on CBS. Will the Dolphins get back on track?
